Former Teacher Found Not Guilty Of Inappropriately Touching Student

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Not Guilty. That’s the verdict in the trial of a former Calhoun County coach and teacher who was accused of touching a child for lustful purposes.

It was back in 2017 when former Bruce High School teacher and coach Loray Jordan Jr. was accused of inappropriately touching an eighth grade female student.

It took the jury nearly three hours to deliberate before returning with their verdict.

During the trial this week, the jury heard testimonies from the victim as well as other teachers and students who were at the school during the time the alleged incident happened

Once the accusations were brought against Jordan, he was fired from the Calhoun County School District.

When the not guilty verdict was announced, a brief cheer of excitement could be heard from those supporting Jordan.

However, it was the complete opposite for the family of the victim.

Family members said they’re heartbroken and disappointed with the outcome.

“My client is very appreciative of the jury’s verdict, and he’s blessed to have received that verdict,” said Willie Perkins, Jordan’s attorney.

“How can you say he’s not guilty,” said Charlene Murry, the victim’s grandmother. “Why would three teenagers get up and testify and say this happened and you find his man not guilty. You just letting this man go free so he can go out and do it again to some other child.”

Not long after the charges were brought against Jordan, former Bruce High School Principal Mike Gillespie and then Calhoun County School District Superintendent Mike Moore were charged with failure to report the alleged crime.

They’re still waiting on a court date to face those charges.

At the time of the original incident, current Bruce Principal Heather Nix was also charged with failure to report.

However, that charge was dismissed.
