Video: Update: Garbage Truck Worker Loses Leg in Morning Wreck

LEE CO., Miss. (WCBI) -A Lee County jail inmate had his leg severed when a car ran into a garbage truck that was stopped near Shannon.

The accident occurred around 8:00 A.M. Tuesday.  Deputies say a car ran into a garbage truck that was stopped on County road 300 and 501.

The inmate was apparently standing behind the garbage truck, and was struck by the vehicle.

Authorities say a blood sample has been taken from the vehicle’s driver.

There were four people, including two children in the car that struck the garbage truck. In all seven people were taken to the hospital.

No charges have been filed yet.
