Going High-Tech In Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Monroe County voters are dropping pencils and picking up stylus pens to sign-in to vote.

Monroe County is one of the only counties in our area using the new electronic poll book system.

WCBI stopped by a precinct in Prairie, Mississippi, to catch the latest election technology being used there.

The e-poll books have replaced the paper check-in process at registration tables.

It offers a more efficient and faster way for voters to check-in and register to vote on Election Day.

All voter rosters are electronically loaded onto the iPad’s and the system can also scan information from driver’s licenses.

“In the past, we haven’t had a big crowd, but this morning, we have had a tremendous turnout. It has been excellent, so yes, the tablet is faster and quicker,” says poll worker Angela Drake.

The tablets aren’t connected to the ballot counting machines or its results.
