Golden Triangle Regional Homeless Coalition opens warming shelter

GOLDEN TRIANGLE AREA, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas with temperatures dropping below freezing.

Not only could this cause damage to pipes but this freeze could be life threatening to people who may not have a home.

The Golden Triangle Regional Homeless Coalition is hosting a temporary warming shelter on November 28 and November 29.

Doors will open at 1501 Martin Luther King Jr Dr in Columbus from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.

John Davis is the treasurer of the Homeless Coalition.

He said volunteers are the backbone of the warming shelter.

“We cannot be open if we do not have volunteers. And the volunteers are here to assist the folks that do come in. It’s going to be very cold for the next two to three nights. So, we’re opening the shelter for anyone. You do not have to be homeless. If you have a home but don’t have adequate heat, come in. We have someone here to help you. We’ll have blankets and cots. We’ll have games. We’ll have some food. And we can just assist in any way we can,” said Davis.
