Gov. Bentley Testifies in Speaker Trial

OPELIKA, Ala. (WCBI) — A high profile witness takes the stand in the ethics trial of Alabama’s Speaker of the House.

Governor Robert Bentley testified Wednesday in the case against State Representative Mike Hubbard.

Hubbard is facing 20 years in prison over 23 felony ethics charges of using his political office for personal gain.

Bentley testified about serving in the House of Representatives with Hubbard, and working with him as governor.

He says he doesn’t believe Hubbard did anything unethical or illegal.

If convicted of any charges, Hubbard would be removed from office.
