Governor Phil Bryant declares statewide burn ban

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – A statewide burn ban has been put into effect immediately throughout the entire state of Mississippi.

Governor Phil Bryant signed a proclamation Wednesday at the request of the Mississippi Forestry Commission.

Under the statewide ban, outdoor burning of any kind is not allowed.

Anyone caught violating the burn ban can be fine and be held responsible for any damages caused by a fire.

From September 1 to September 30, MFC wildland firefighters responded to and suppressed 239 wildfires that burned approximately 4,200 acres throughout the state.

The ban is in place until further notice.
