The Oktibbeha County District  5 Volunteer Fire Department is getting $194,901 in grants to help with staffing and equipment.  One comes from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program administered by the Department of Homeland Security.  That money is used to recruit and retain volunteer fire department members.  The second grant comes from the Mississippi Forestry Commission’s Volunteer Assistance Program to help pay for equipment to outfit a wildfire firefighting truck.   The best part of the grants is they do not require any local matching funds.
