Greenville Schools Respond To Video

GREENVILLE (WCBI) – The Greenville School District is breaking its silence on the video which appears to show a student being dragged by the hair across the gym floor.  Below is the body of that state

Let me start by first saying the district is shocked by this incident. This type of negative behavior will not be accepted nor tolerated in this school system. Ewe here in Greenville Public School District hold our parents, students, faculty and staff to highest regards. Moreover, we will not begin to accept anything else than doing and conducting oneself in the spirit of excellence. It goes without saying safety is a No. 1 priority here in Greenville Public Schools.

Additionally this isolated matter is currently under an active and very aggressive internal and external investigation., Due to this being a personnel matter we cannot and will discuss information or details that can compromise the investigation. Upon completion of the investigation the district will take the appropriate disciplinary action as listed in our 2016-17 parent/Student Handbook and we will follow our district’s Code of Ethics policies and procedures. Due to FERPA and HIPPA laws any additional information is prohibited and protected.

The following measures have been taken proactively by the GPSD Administration.:

District leaders and support teams have been devised to do learning talks by color oriented teams to ensure district best practices are being followed at all times.

GPSDF has emphasized its Non-negotiable instructional and operational methods for all staff

GPSD is providing additional professional development for its employees

GPSD will work to ensure and improve parents are actively engaged in our collaborative decision making processes

Greenville Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident as well
