Grenada County Sheriff’s Office reminds community about new scam in the area

GRENADA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office is reminding community members to use good judgment when it comes to a scam making its rounds.

A scammer is calling people posing as a Lieutenant with the department.

They will then tell the victim that a federal warrant is being issued for their arrest for missing jury duty.

The scam continues by spoofing the victim to pay money for a pre-bond, and if they don’t, they will be arrested.

Remember, no law enforcement agency will contact anyone over the phone about a warrant.

There is also no pre-bond option to get out of jail.

When it comes to the sheriff’s office, the department does not have Lieutenants, Sergeants, Captains, or Corporals.

If you receive this type of call, hang up immediately, and remember to never give out your personal information.
