Video: GTECHS Kicks Off New School Year

MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI) –  It broke new ground last year, becoming the first early college model school of its kind in Mississippi.

The Golden Triangle Early College High School kicked off a new school year with convocation Monday.

This year, the school will have sixty freshmen and sixty-one sophomores.

The students are from schools in Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Oktibbeha counties.

When they graduate, they will earn a high school diploma as well as an associate’s degree.

Administrators hope to continue the success they started during the inaugural year.

Nationwide, there are more than two hundred early colleges.

The Golden Triangle school is a partnership among EMCC, the Mississippi Department of Education, and Mississippi State University.
