NETTLETON, Miss. (Press Release) – Press released posted on the Lee County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page:
**3:15pm update: Student has been located and is safe.
***4:10pm update: The owner of the backpack containing the handgun has been located.
At approximately 8:50am this morning, based on info received and gathered by the Lee Co Sheriff’s Dept School Resource Officer at Nettleton, Nettleton school officials and Lee County Sheriff’s Dept Deputies, the Nettleton school campus was searched and a backpack containing a gun was found. It was quickly retrieved and removed from campus by the Sheriff’s Dept. While interviewing several students, one student left campus and is currently being looked at as a runaway.

Nettleton Schools were on lockdown for about 1 1/2 hours. Normal scheduling was resumed after school was searched. We feel confident the campus is now safe. We do have a School Resource Officer on campus each day.
