Healthy Living for Seniors Expo Opportunities bring seniors to Columbus
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- From medical testing to health care services, many seniors made their way out to take advantage of all things health today.
The gloomy weather couldn’t keep the senior citizen’s home.
They turned up in droves for the Healthy Living for Seniors Expo.
“You get exposed to a lot of areas and a lot of services that some elderly people do not know anything about or are aware of them but don’t know exactly what that service provides. Such as hospice care, physical therapy, insurance options, especially since it’s coming up now is the time for insurance and Medicare to be to be renewed,” said Jessie Koonce.
Irma Dickerson and Jessie Koonce are here to take advantage of some of the tests.
“Well I want to have my blood pressure checked again, and I did, and it was good, so I’m glad about that,” said Dickerson.
“What I’m gonna do is bone density test, and I know that they do have options to get ready for a sleep apnea test which is something which is important to me because I’m asthmatic so I’ve looked at that, and I’m going over there, and I’m doing a bone density test,” said Koonce.
It’s a day to talk one on one with these healthcare experts.
“Some people might not have insurance, and they can come out and have the blood pressure checked and get their weight. They can learn what to do about different areas of the body,” said Dickerson.
Koonce says if she hadn’t made the trek out she wouldn’t have known about some of the services offered to seniors.
“A lot of options that you might not know exist that I did not know exist and they’re available here for you. So far found a physical therapist that I had, but I didn’t know exist. If I have a problem with needing physical therapy, I know another option I did not know of before I came out here today,” said Koonce.
Today’s event is made possible by Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Sanctuary Hospice, and WCBI.
