High School Student Accused Of Making A Social Media Threat Against School

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)- A social media threat aimed at an area high school gets the attention of law enforcement.

West Point Police said on Wednesday, a student made a threat over social media saying he was planning a shooting at the school on Friday.

The department received a tip from the FBI about the threat and immediately began investigating.

Police brought the juvenile who was accused of making the threat to the station to be interviewed.

Assistant Chief Kennedy Meaders said the student admitted to making the threat.

According to Meaders, the student said he made the threat because he was kicked off of an app on his phone.

“I think the app was like “Fun Run” or something like that right there, he may have gotten kicked off and then he got mad,” said Meaders. “He took it as a joke, but with all of the stuff that’s going on in the country today, we have to take these threats very seriously and make sure that our students and our community are safe.”

The case is being handled in Youth Court.
