Higher Taxes Possible For Winona

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Winona property owners may have to pay a little higher property taxes starting this fall.

The Winona school district has asked for a 2.8 mill increase to help fund its budget this year. The increase would raise about $60,000 for the district.

The town’s aldermen have little choice under state law but to approve the request when they meet this week to finalize the city’s budget. Aldermen will meet Tuesday (9-11) to cut $15,000 needed to balance the city’s general operations budget to avoid any tax increase for those services.
