Home Destroyed, Firefighter Injured
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An early morning blaze destroys a home and injures a Lowndes County volunteer firefighter.
Firefighters were called to 21 Sycamore Lane, just off Highway 50, around 3 a.m., January 2.
County Fire Coordinator Neil Austin says it appears the flames started in a shop next to the house.
By the time District 3 volunteers arrived, the fire had spread to the attic of the home.
The injured fireman was burned. He is stable condition and receiving treatment at a Jackson hospital.
The fireman’s name has not been released.
Austin believes the fire is possibly cold weather related.
District 1 VFD also assisted in putting out the flames.
