HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) – In Wildcat Country at Houlka Park just off Highway 32 West, a new football field is under construction.

The city, county, and the school district have been working hard for the last six years, hoping that their plans to build a football field behind their baseball field would not be tossed out. Today [Monday] there was a gathering of supporters at the spot for the new field. Among them the wife of the late Jim “Bo” Byars, a former football coach who would be proud.

“Its just so exciting to actually see some dirt moving. See some, see it going,” said Sonja Byars.

“Well I just think we’ll probably have a bigger turn out. You know more people will be able to make it to the games. And I know the boys will be excited. You know to have their games here at home,” said Betsy Collums, Superintendent, Chickasaw county Schools.

Culverts are in place at the field and dirt work is being done. No official date set for the completion of the football field.
