HSUS: Local Flea Markets Selling Puppy Mill Pups

RIPLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — An investigation by the Humane Society of the United States has found flea markets nationwide are selling puppies bred from puppy mills.

Two of them are right here in North Mississippi.

The organization’s report says one puppy mill sold regularly at a Tupelo flea market – another in Ripley.

The undercover HSUS investigator visited 21 flea markets in 10 states, and found 125 puppy sellers connected to flea markets.

The investigator found many of the dogs in inhumane living conditions.

At some locations, if the animals didn’t sell, they were abandoned or even shot.

HSUS says it hopes this recent investigation will lead to flea markets banning puppy sales.
