Report of accidental shooting at acting Webster County Sheriff’s home

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Law enforcement said an accidental shooting happened at the acting Webster County sheriff’s home on Mantee Road on Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened about 9 a.m. at acting sheriff Andy McCants’ home.

Multiple sources told WCBI that McCants’ grandson was accidentally shot.

We’re also told he was shot in the abdomen and is under 10-years-old.

WCBI has also been told that he and his older brother were playing with a gun when it accidentally went off.

He was taken to the hospital in Eupora, where he was airlifted to another hospital.

It’s not known what hospital he was flown to or what his current condition is at this time.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol was called in to investigate.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman said no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
