Hundreds gather to attend annual MS Valley Fly Wheel Festival

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- It might not feel like fall just yet but that doesn’t mean people aren’t looking to get into the fall spirit.

Falls brings cooler temperatures, apple cider, and festivals…

Every year, hundreds of people take a trip to Chickasaw County for the Mississippi Valley Fly Wheel Festival.

Here, you can find homemade crafts, vendors, and booths filled with antiques.

Sheldon Koehn says he comes to serve up a sweet treat, the old-fashioned way…

” It’s a 1934 model hit and miss John Deere engine. Its got two ice cream churns on it,each of them hold five gallons a piece, so that’s a total of ten gallons. We sell around 60 gallons here at this festival every time we come, ” said Koehn.

He says every 20 minutes, new ice cream is taken from the canister, into the dipping station.

Koehn has traveled to events all over Mississippi to share his passion.

” It’s a real pleasure to come and do our thing here and go around to all the different festivals, ” said Koehn.

While some people come for the food, others like Bruce Sisk are interested in coming to Houston for antique engines.

” I enjoy being with old tractors, it’s just in my blood I can’t help it,” said Sisk.

Sisk has brought this tractor to the festival since 2001.

He says his ride has expanded his interest to many other models..

” I have peddle tractors, I have lawn tractors, and I got several different kinds and I just enjoying bringing them and showing them,” said Sisk.

For 10 years, rain or shine, Sisk makes sure not to miss a show.

” I like for people to look at it, show it off and brag on it, ” said Sisk.

Both Koehn and Sisk plan to be back at the Fly Wheel Festival next year.
