Video: Improvements Coming to Lamar Co. Courthouse

LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) — Some major improvements could be coming to the Lamar County courthouse.

In a proposed plan, the county is looking to replace the windows, electrical system and floors, plus make repairs to the walls, ceilings and doors.

The renovations could also include large columns, which will be added to the front of the building.

The solid waste and tag offices have already moved to the old Vernon City Hall building across the street, and will stay there permanently.

Other employees at the courthouse will temporarily move to another building until construction is complete.

Probate Judge Johnny Rogers tells WCBI construction will begin in January.

He hopes workers will be back in the building in about a year.

Right now, the budget for the total project is $2.1 million, but that could change.

Officials say they hope to get some grants to help cover the cost.
