Inmate Death Lawsuit Settled

ABERDEEN ( WCBI) – The family of a man who died while in custody at the Lee County Detention Center has settled a lawsuit against the county, a jail nurse and two former corrections officers.

Charles Cobb, Junior was jailed July 2, 2015 after pleading guilty to several misdemeanor charges filed by the City of Tupelo.  3 days later, Cobb first complained of severe stomach pain and asked to be carried to the hospital.    The jail nurse is alleged to have said Cobb probably had a stomach ulcer and left medicine for him on the medical cart.  Cobb repeated his claims for two days before he was found unresponsive in his cell July 7,2015.  That’s when he was carried to the hospital but he died the next day from a severe abdominal infection caused by an intestinal rupture.

Terms of the settlement are confidential. The original lawsuit had asked for all medical expenses, legal fees and punitive damages to be decided by a jury.
