ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Dissatisfied customers of the Northeast Itawamba Water Association packed the Itawamba County Courthouse tonight.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley listened to their concerns about unusually high water bills.

The association raised funds to build a new water main to connect the local water system to Franklin County Alabama.

Presley told the crowd that the water board and not the public service commission was responsible for rates.

“We can go in and impose a civil penalty on this association but it’s only going to hurt the customer. And that’s the position we’re in. I don’t want to stand up here and fine an association and then end up at the end of the day, you’all have to pay that fine. That’s not fair to the customer,” said Brandon Presley.

Presley says he will take action pertaining to the actual service, including numerous complaints about the quality of water. He says he intends to get more answers. The water association serves 1,700 people.
