Update: Jail Loses Federal Inmates Over Security Concerns

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — More than two dozen federal inmates are being removed from a North Mississippi jail.

Northern District U.S. Marshal Dennis Erby tells WCBI the 29 prisoners are being moved from the Monroe County jail to other facilities due to security concerns.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says the move comes after the recent escape of convicted bank robber Chris Cosner.

Cantrell says Cosner stuck an item in the jail cell door, and the door jammed.

Cantrell also says a technology glitch reported the door was locked, but it wasn’t.

Erby says the inmates will be held in the new locations until proper security changes are made.
