TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said he is looking forward to another term in office.
Johnson, a Republican, defeated his Democrat challenger Jermandy Jackson in the race for Lee County sheriff.
Sheriff Johnson garnered 16,496 votes while Jackson received 8,246 votes.
The sheriff said the election totals show the public is supportive of the job he and his staff are doing.
“By the numbers you see, of people who get out and support you, being your fifth term, it’s easy to govern a group of people whenever you have that type of support, and that is something I’m thankful, humble for and appreciative of and we will continue to serve people like we always have, regardless of if you voted for me or not and we will do that is necessary to make this county a safe place,” Sheriff Johnson said.
Johnson was first elected in 2003 as Lee County Sheriff.
