UNDATED, Miss. (WCBI)-The holiday season continues.

Kwanzaa began on Wednesday (12-26).

The 7 day celebration runs through January 1.

It was created in 1966 by African Studies Professor Maulana Karenga.

Rooted in African harvest festivals, Kwanzaa honors African American traditions.

Each day of Kwanzaa celebrates 1 of 7 principals.

They are : unity, self determination, collective responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.

Events are planned in various parts of the state throughout the week.
