LCSD Superintendent shares plans for the school year

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Former New Hope Middle School Principal Sam Allison received a big promotion for the new year.

Allison now serves as the Superintendent for Lowndes County School District.

Over the last year, Lowndes County Schools made momentous strides towards student success, even earning an A-rating in the district.

Allison said he’s focused on keeping that achievement and he shares how he’s going to do it.

“We want to just make sure our kids are growing,” said Allison.

He says there are a lot of obstacles to tackle. The first step is working towards a balanced budget within the district.

“Right now we are about to hit the planning for next year. That is budgeting. That’s going to take up a lot of time in the next couple of months to try and figure out budgets and finances,” said Allison.

With a steady financial plan, administrators can focus more on what really counts — students in the classroom.

“We figure out what places we can improve on that we’re looking at, we’ll do that each year. We have to recognize that as a school district that some kids need more, some kids need different. There’s not a one size fits all,” said Allison.

Allison added that keeping an eye on the students’ performance is key to growth.

“A kid is not going to grow unless you’re meeting them where they are. You can’t meet them years down the road and expect them to fill that gap. We have to fill gaps at every grade level in order to get students where we need them to be,” said Allison.

With a team of hard-working educators, hopefully, it’ll lead the path to student achievement.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about what can we do to be better. What can we do to empower the people that are out there? Our teachers, our administrators because those are the ones because you want to support them they’re the ones that are going to make the differences in kids lives,” said Allison.

Allison has worked in the Lowndes County School District for over 10 years and he is excited for the school year.
