Missing Lee County Woman Found

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The search for an 82-year-old Lee County woman who walked away from her home Monday has a happy ending.

Lizzie Langford was found in a creek bed, off of County road 1147 around 10 this morning.

It was around 11 Monday morning, when relatives say Langford left her home on foot. The house is about a mile from where she was found.

Family members told Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson that Langford suffers from early stages of dementia and they were obviously concerned for her safety.

A ground search by sheriff’s deputies, the volunteer fire department and other concerned citizens took place Monday evening but was called off after a few hours.

This morning, Sheriff Johnson says one of his deputies was walking along the creek area when he noticed something.

“It was full of water, just very fortunate that there was some movement by Mrs. Langford that allowed the deputy to see where she was at, we were able to get her out of the creek, brought her to the road and at this point the medical people are tending to her,” Johnson continued, “We just want to thank the community for their prayers and support and efforts of getting out here to look and this one had a good ending and we’re very appreciative of it.”
