Lee County ends practice of posting mugshots

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Mugshots will no longer be a part of the Lee County Sheriff Department website.

Sheriff Jim Johnson made the move because at least two social media sites would copy the photos on their pages and would allow the public to comment on each arrest.

Johnson said those sites were leading to people being threatened and harassed.

The Lee County Sheriff website will continue to post arrests and jail rosters, but no mugshots will be attached.
