Lee County Plans Extended Siren Test

TUPELO, MS, MARCH 1, 2013: The Lee County Emergency Management Agency conducts a

monthly test of the outdoor warning system (tornado sirens) at noon on the first Saturday of the

month. These tests are only conducted when there is no immediate threat of severe weather.

This Saturday, March 2, 2013, there will be an extended test of the system beginning at

10:00AM and concluding no later than Noon. There may be multiple activations of the warning

system during this time frame.

The purpose of this extended test is to calibrate the new sirens in Mooreville and Saltillo areas

and verify that the other sirens that have recently been upgraded are functioning properly.

We would also like to remind residents to sign up for the FREE CodeRED Weather Warning

service by visiting http://www.trpdd.com./codered. Residents can choose to receive phone calls

for Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm or Flash Flood Warnings. These weather warning calls are

targeted only for the residents in the forecasted path of the storm.

Residents who desire to be called only for tornado warnings may opt out of the other warnings when they sign up.

Residents who provide a cell phone, and indicate that they wish to receive text messages

regarding alerts, can specify which alerts they wish to receive text messages for and which ones

they wish to receive a phone call. Winter Storm warnings are currently only available via text.
