Lee County School District names new superintendent of education

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The leader of Lee County schools said he is taking another job in November.

Superintendent of Education Jimmy Weeks will go to work for the North Mississippi Education Consortium in Oxford.

The county school board has named the district’s assistant superintendent, Coke Magee, to succeed Weeks in the district.

Magee will be the first appointed superintendent for the Lee County schools.

Mississippi enacted a law in 2016 requiring all school districts to have appointed superintendents starting this year.

Weeks has worked for the district for more than 20 years and was elected superintendent in 2011 and 2015.

He helped persuade voters to approve a $13 million bond issue in 2012 for construction and renovations to schools.
