Lemonade Stand Helps Aid Fight Against Cancer
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Motorists on West Jackson Street in Tupelo had a good reason to stop for a cold lemonade Saturday.
For the fifth straight year, drivers could stop and buy a lemonade and help raise money for cancer research.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer gave young people the chance to do something positive for the community.
“It’s a national foundation, Alex’s Lemonade Stand organization…”, said volunteer Rhonda Judson. “…it started in Pennsylvania in 2004. There was a little girl named Alex that had cancer and she wanted to have a lemonade stand and raise a million dollars to help kids with cancer. And she unfortunately passed away but her parents went on and kept it up and now its a national foundation that’s been going on.”
Judson says the first year for the stand raised a little over $500 dollars and they have increased that amount every year.
The goal this year is to raise $1,000 dollars.
