Limited information on Artesia shooting released to public

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Lowndes County investigators said this is one of the worst crime scenes they can remember.

The triple homicide in Artesia happened late Tuesday afternoon on Mobile Road.

Three men were shot and killed at a home there.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant has released the names.

The victims are Demario Snell, Mauricio Lamarcus, and Tyshun Bernard Fields all from Lowndes County.

The sheriff’s department held a news conference earlier Wednesday.

Investigators said they still don’t know the motive.

But they believe the person of interest knew the victims.

Very little information is being released at this time by the Sheriff’s department, to not jeopardize the investigation.

Investigators said they believe there are witnesses who have beneficial information in this case.

Especially, an investigation like a homicide, that you’ve got to be very careful of what you release and we’re thinking down the road, when we get into a courtroom and maybe something may have gotten out too early and hurt us in our investigation to build a case on someone,” said Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge.

“As the investigation progresses, if you’re referring to additional arrests of other individuals, we’ll just have to see where the investigation takes us. Right now, that’s what we’re trying to determine through talking to people, as many people that will talk, that’s why I’m so strongly encouraging anybody with any information,” said Major Greg Wright.

Investigators aren’t releasing the person of interest’s name at this time.

They said the investigation will take some time.
