Video: Local Community, Civic Worker Dies

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Vernon, Alabama woman who many call a tireless worker for causes in Columbus and beyond.

Elizabeth Trevathan Johnson died Wednesday.

Johnson, who was 44-years-old, was a Starkville High School and Mississippi State graduate. She was involved in public service for a number of local organizations.

She served as president of Columbus Arts Council board, Hearts After School Tutoring Program, and the Exchange Club of Columbus. She was instrumental in planning the recent Mississippi Exchange Club convention in Columbus.

Art Council Executive director Tina Sweeten says Johnson was a dedicated and enthusiastic worker.

Visitation for Johnson will be held Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Vernon from 5:30 to 8:30pm.

There will also be a visitation in Columbus Thursday at First United Methodist Church from 3:00 to 5:00pm. A memorial service will follow.
