Video: Local Crews Head To South Florida To Help With Hurricane Matthew

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-Hurricane Matthew is expected to bring heavy damage to South Florida.

To help assist in the recovery efforts, 4-County Electric Power is sending some of its workers down to South Florida this weekend.

The company will assemble an all-volunteer group which consist of 15 workers to go down and help restore power to residents who are affected by Hurricane Matthew.

The workers will leave out this Saturday at 4 A.M. and head to Sumterville, Florida, which is a little over 100 miles from Daytona Beach, Florida, the area that’s excepted to be one of the hardest hit area by Hurricane Matthew.

Crews will take two bucket trucks and and two digger trucks down with them.

Workers are excepted to be in South Florida for at least a week.

They tell me they’re happy to be able to lend a helping hand, but they also know this means they’ll have to be away from their family for days at a time.

“We’re just happy to go help any of our electrical cooperatives that are having any trouble,” said Rob Giles, one of the crew members leaving for South Florida. “Just helping get the lights back on. It’s going to be a lot of damage I’m sure, a lot of lines down, broke poles, just what ever they need us to do.”

Four County Electric Power will be going to assist Sumter Electric Cooperative.

Workers are excepted to be out there for at least a week, but that could changed depending on how much damage Hurricane Matthew causes once it makes landfall.
