Local Flower Shops Gear Up To Make Special Valentine’s Day Deliveries

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Valentine’s Day is just one day away, and flower shops all over are definitely feeling the rush.

It’s no secret that Valentine’s Day is a big revenue generator for flower shops.

From red roses, to pink roses, to daises, Noweta’s Green Thumb in Columbus has taken more than a thousand orders for the big day, making for a floral frenzy.

“It’s extremely chaotic and crazy,” said Bruce Sansing, owner of Noweta’s Green Thumb.

“We probably made over 100 and that’s just today, it’s not counting what’s going to happen tomorrow,” said Wanda Baldwin, manager at Noweta’s Green Thumb.

Since the beginning of the year, customers have been placing their orders for Valentine’s Day.

“Roses are always popular, they’re the most popular thing there is,” Baldwin expressed. Then you’ve also got your mix cut flowers, that’s the two most popular things.”

Workers at the flower shop have also been gearing up for the holiday since the start of 2019.

“Our flowers don’t come in until just a few days before Valentines, said Sansing. “Just because they order it, the orders are holding until the flowers come in.”

Sansing said he always waits until just a few days before the actual holiday to have the flowers shipped to the store.

That way, he can make sure they are all fresh and elegant, just like the special someone on the receiving end.

“The flowers come in and we get them from our grower, I buy directly from growers,” the store owner explained. “They come in, we process them, get them hydrated, and then we keep them in a cooler until we start making them up.”

Workers at the shop will tell you, it takes a lot to make everyone’s Valentine’s Day flowers special.

However, in the end, employees said working the long hours, receiving endless phone calls, and driving hundreds of miles to deliver the orders is all worth it once they see the smiles on their customers faces.

“It means a lot to young ladies, especially those that like to get their stuff delivered at work, they like that because everybody knows they have a loved one in their life,” said Sansing.

“You’ve got to love it to be in it, I think it just gets in your blood system,” said Baldwin.

Sansing said they’ll have five drivers hitting the road Thursday morning beginning at 8 to make all of the deliveries on time.
