Local Hospital Unveils State Of The Art Hybrid Operating Room

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Baptist Golden Triangle is expanding cardiac services with a state of the art Hybrid Operating Room and updated cardiac catheterization lab.

The Hybrid Operating Room is unique because it is a combination of a fully functional cath lab and operating room.

This allows surgeons to perform things such as X-Rays and MRI’s, as well as complex open procedures and invasive surgeries all in the same room.

The new project costs roughly $5 million and is the only one of its kind in the Golden Triangle.

The Hybrid Operating Room has been in the works for the past four years.

Another benefit of this room is that it gives staff more space which improves their workflow.

With the addition of this new room, surgeons said patients will no longer have to go out of town to get this type of technology.

“The capabilities of helping more patients and  giving more varieties of different procedures that we can do,” said Dr. Richard Eubanks, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital. “Instead of going to a cath Lab, finishing the procedure in the cath lab and then having to go to the operating room or vice versa, instead I can work in conjunction with the cardiologist at the same time. I can do a surgical part, they can do the catheterization part and we can go back-and-forth and really collaborating and working as a team.”

The very first procedure performed in the Hybrid Operating Room will take place on Tuesday.
