Lockdown lifted at most county regional correctional facilities

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The lockdown has been lifted at all but two county regional correctional facilities in the state.

The two facilities still under a lockdown are Chickasaw County Correctional Facility and Yazoo County Correctional Facility.

A statewide lockdown was put in place on December 31, 2019, after an inmate was killed and two others injured at South Mississippi Correctional Facility in Greene County.

Another four inmates were killed in the prison system following the lockdown, with three of the murders taking place at Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. One inmate was killed in a fight at Chickasaw County Regional Correctional Facility.

All other facilities remain under a lockdown.
