Video: Long Road of Construction Complete for One Columbus Bridge

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- A tattered bridge in Columbus is finally usable, after two months of construction.

Mayor Robert Smith, Council members, and other city officials, gathered Wednesday on Deer Run Road, to celebrate with a ribbon cutting.

Crews have been working on the Deer Run Bridge, for about two months. It’s a short time compared to the three years of planning it took for construction alone.

Ward Six Councilman Bill Gavin, says dirt underneath the bridge was washed away due to heavy rain, and fixing the problem was long overdue.

The bridge is the only exit for residents that live on the road.
