Tupelo and Columbus, Mississippi (WCBI) – Tupelo is making a big push for volunteers this weekend to help tornado victims.

Meanwhile, Tupelo Water and Light is beginning work to repair street lights damaged by the April 28th twister.

No timetable has been set on when the work could be complete.

A Tupelo spokesperson says the push for volunteers will be Saturday in areas that had the first pass in debris removal.

To sign-up, go to the volunteer center at All Saints’ Episcopal Church.

The deadline for Mississippi tornado victims to register for FEMA assistance is June 30.

In Lowndes County, the United Way is still asking for volunteers with chainsaws to help residents remove trees and limbs. The organization says some residents don’t have the money to pay someone to remove the rubble.

Debris must be moved to the curb of the road by June first in Lowndes County.
