Lowndes County Deputies Take Part In Active Shooter Training

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County Deputies hit the classroom on Wednesday for an active shooter training course.

An instructor from the Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute came to Lowndes County to teach deputies on the topic.

Deputies learned about the different tactics when responding to an active shooter. Whether it’s at a school, church or wherever the situation could possibly take place.

Instructor Chris Salley says an active shooter situation is a very real issue and law enforcement must be prepared to deal with in today’s world.

“Officers and deputies deal with lots of different issues, but an active killer kind of stands on its own as a different situation. A lot of the training and experience that we have in dealing with other situations, it’s not always the best way to respond to an active killer, if our goal is to be effective and save people’s lives.”

Salley travels all over to teach different law enforcement agencies on this topic.
