Lowndes County Pitbull Rescue

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County couple believes the pit bull dog breed gets a bad rap and they’ve made it their mission to rescue and rehab pit bulls.

Kenneth Shaw and his wife Aimee Shaw run Shaw Pit Bull Rescue on center road. the 501-C non-profit saves abandoned or neglected pit bulls.

Rehabing a pit bull can take anywhere from 2 months to a year.

The Shaws along with a handful of volunteers rescue on average 80 dogs annually.

However, the bust of a dog fighting ring in Madison County has the shelter full to capacity.

Shaw PBR is now seeking donations and volunteers to help with the overflow.

Kenneth Shaw says whether they receive any help or none at all…they will continue to take in as many pitbulls as their shelter can hold.

“We have a love the the pitbull. They are a misunderstood breed. And, alot of people just don’t have the time or resources to do anything with them. They’d rather just put them off and move onto a different kind of dog. There are a lot of pitbulls around and for law enforcement to do their jobs they need a place to go,” says Kenneth Shaw of Shaw Pitbull Rescue.

Kenneth and his wife Aimee have run Shaw PBR on their property in new hope since 2012.
