Video: Luncheon Held for Special Olympics Athletes

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Special Olympics athletes are being recognized for participating in Mississippi’s State Games.

A luncheon was held for them at the Columbus Fairfield Inn and Suites Tuesday afternoon.

The athletes competed in the May games at Keesler Air Force Base.

Three new students are also hoping to be the first in the Magnolia State to compete in the martial art, Judo.

“They look forward to it every year,” said Cindy Burks, Area 6 Assistant Director. “Special Olympics is just one thing they look forward to it a year, and the Keesler State Games, Summer Games is just the icing on the top.”

These athletes competed in both track and field, and bowling.
