Magnolia Gold Provides Opportunity For ICC Students

FULTON, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – Itawamba Community College students can continue to participate this fall in a campus-based program affiliated with the Mississippi Army National Guard or take a military science course.

Although students don’t have to enlist to take courses as an elective, those who do so can take advantage of such benefits as tuition and monthly pay.

The Magnolia Gold program offers a unique opportunity for young men and women to become leaders in the Mississippi National Guard while working toward a college degree.

To qualify, students must be U.S. citizens, full-time college students, maintain a 2.0 GPA and enlist into the Mississippi Army National Guard.

The fall semester course is basic leadership. The program also features a Color Guard, which participates in numerous special events with extremely high visibility at the College.

“Both ICC and the Mississippi Army National Guard are stressing the importance of leadership development through the Gold program for both Guard members and ICC students, who are seeking ways to set themselves apart when entering the workforce after graduation,” said Sgt. David Sistrunk, instructor for the courses.

ICC is one of only a select few community colleges in the state to offer the program.
