Man airlifted to hospital after Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is airlifted to an area hospital after a late afternoon shooting in Columbus.

Chief Fred Shelton with the Columbus Police Department said the shooting happened around 5 p.m. near 6th Street and 5th Avenue South.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

It’s also unknown which hospital the victim was flown to.

Police are currently looking for a 4×4 heavy duty Dark Gray SUV with dark tinted windows driven by a light-skinned African-American male possibly with another male.

Police believe the suspect and the victim know each other.

Officers say the two may have been involved in some type verbal altercation that escalated to the shooting.

The incident is currently under investigation.
