ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — A 30-year-old Aberdeen man originally was charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of an Aberdeen woman who has been missing sine Sunday night. But those charges were dropped this afternoon and he was arrested on charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. A $2,500 bond was set.

Brian Lyons was charged Thursday morning with kidnapping. The charges were changed this afternoon. He is accused of trying to steal a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe belonging to 26-year-old Teresa Ewing. She has been the focus of an extensive search in several areas of the county since Monday. She was last seen Sunday night.

Lyons is her ex-boyfriend and her relatives say he has abused her previously. He has denied any wrong in statements to police.

Her Tahoe was found Monday on Franklin Street. It had a flat tire and the keys were found nearby.

The Aberdeen Police Department got involved after Ewing’s mother contacted them after she never returned home Sunday night.

Police Chief Henry Randle said Ewing wasn’t around to take her three children to school Monday and didn’t return any phone calls, which family members say is not in her nature.

Police located her vehicle Monday on Franklin Street and have since searched several wooded areas and abandoned homes in and around Aberdeen.

Ewing is a black female with brown eyes and black hair. She is 5’9″ and weighs between 170 and 180 pounds. She was last seen wearing gray pajama pants and a white T-shirt. Randle said it is unclear if she is 25 or 26.

The search continues and any volunteers who want to help are asked to call Aberdeen Police at 369-6454.

Anyone with any information on Ewing’s whereabouts is asked to call the APD, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 369-2468 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
