Man charged with murder in Monroe County cold case

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell announced in a press conference Monday an arrest in the murder of William E. “Pops” Phillip.

William E. “Pop” Phillips was reported missing in 2011.

Phillips was reported missing in June 2011.

Jeffery Kennedy, 54, has been charged with murder in the case.

Kennedy is currently serving a 10 year sentence in Rankin County because of a drug conviction from Monroe County.

MDOC records showed Kennedy was convicted of Methamphetamine – Manufacturing (Attempt).

Kennedy is currently in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
