Man dies after being severely burned in Oktibbeha County fire

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man severely burned in a recent Oktibbeha County fire has died.

The blaze happened in the early morning hours of September 21 at a home on Hickory Grove Road.

Coroner Michael Hunt said Britt Newby, 47, died at the Central Mississippi Burn Center in Jackson on Sunday.

Investigators believed Newby made it out of the house but went back inside for some clothes. That’s when he was burned.

Newby’s death has been ruled accidental.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
