TUPELO – An Alabama man was arrested today and charged with four counts of touching a child for lustful purposes.
David Bryan Sims, 43, of Hartselle, Ala., had his bond set at $100,000 at his arraignment this afternoon at Lee County Justice Court.
The alleged incidents occurred at the victims’ residence in Lee County – there were numerous victims, according to authorities. Sims allegedly met the victims’ mother online in June or July 2013 and moved in with the woman and the victims.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the case offers some lessons for men and women.
The sheriff encourages people to be extra cautious when dealing with anyone online.
“You need to look at their past , you need to look at exactly all they’ve been involved in and the biggest lesson I could look at is look at the importance of the livelihood of your children and don’t surround them with individuals who could cause any type of harm to them,” Johnson said.
After an incident report was filed to Lee County investigators, it was found that Sims was on felony probation with Walker County, Ala., for two counts of criminal mischief and breaking and entering of a vehicle. He was sentenced for those crimes on Aug. 18, 2011.
Sims had been traveling back to Alabama to meet with his probation officer and had not informed the officer of his residence in Lee County.
