COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — With the state’s open carry gun laws, it was bound to happen — someone walks into a business carrying a gun, and employees react by calling police.

It did Wednesday in Columbus.

A man walked into Popeye’s on Highway 45 carrying a gun at about 1:30 p.m. today. He walked through the restaurant section without saying anything and went into the bathroom. Employees called 911 and began evacuating.

Police and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the business and a Columbus officer ordered the man out of the bathroom.

The gun turned out to be a realistic looking plastic BB pistol.

The man was taken into custody. He eventually was released without charges.

Did yall notice the reporter stating ” he walked through the restaurant section without saying anything” What was he suppose to say??? he didn’t have to say anything, but when you read it, it sounds like that was a problem…what ever. The problem was Popeye’s needed to educate the employee’s, the man did nothing wrong, and Popeye’s, and the police owes the man an apology.
