Maroon Home Dedication

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville Habitat for Humanity dedicates the ninth annual Maroon Edition home to it’s new owner.

Mississippi State and Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity officials and volunteers came out to hand the keys over to Kareema Gillon and her two young children.

The house broke ground on August 11th, which is special to Gillon because that’s her grandfather’s birthday.

Today is another special day because the family gets the house right in time for Thanksgiving.

The new home-owner says she feels more than blessed and can’t describe the feeling.

“It’s a feeling from inside to with out, but I’m so happy because my kids finally get somewhere that I can show them the ropes and show them how I lived in a house when I was younger, and you know, it’s something that I can give back to them when I’m gone and they’re here, you know something to just remember me by,” says Homeowner Kareema Gillon.

Gillon’s home is featured in a previous WCBI story about three Hurricane Irma evacuees from Florida State University volunteering at while they were here.
